Christmas Tree Safety Tips

Follow these Tips for a happy, fire-safe holiday

  • Choose a freshly cut tree
  • Cut a few inches off the trunk before placing in the stand
  • Keep the tree from blocking halls, stairs and exits
  • keep away from heat sources, sparks,or open flames
  • Avoid "octopus" connections and overloaded circuits
  • Check and replace worn or damaged light sets or  wires
  • Use only non-combustible decorations
  • Use only U.L. or F.M approved lights: only spot lights or flood lights on artifical trees;
  • NO CANDLES
  • Live trees need water; check and refill often if the tree dries out, remove it.
  • Use wire or nylon cord to secure the tree to the wall or ceiling to keep it from being tipped over by children or pets.
